Forsyth County · Cumming · Johns Creek, GA
202 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Cumming. One building, every arrest in the county, and the place our agents drive to so your family does not have to learn it at two in the morning.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office operates the county’s only detention facility. Arrests made by the Sheriff’s Office, the Cumming Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol on GA-400, campus and school officers, and state agencies working in the county all book into the same place.
Please confirm current visitation, commissary and property procedures directly with the Sheriff’s Office before making a trip — those policies change, and a wasted drive at the end of a long night is the last thing anyone needs.
Booking is a queue, not an event, and the length of the queue is the single biggest variable in your evening.
You can post a cash bond directly at the jail without a bondsman. Two things to know before you do.
First, the jail takes cash for a cash bond — not personal cheques, not business cheques, and generally not money orders. Call ahead and confirm what is accepted today before you drive over with an envelope.
Second, a cash bond ties up the full face value of the bond for the life of the case, which can be many months. Most of it is returned at the end, less non-refundable county fees, but it is not money you can use in the meantime. A surety bond costs 15% and it is gone — but the other 85% stays in your account. Which is better depends entirely on your circumstances, and we will tell you honestly if a cash bond is the smarter move for you.
A hold means the person stays in custody no matter what bond is posted. The common ones are a probation or parole hold, a warrant from another county or state, an immigration detainer, and a medical or mental health hold. There is also a mandatory cooling-off period on some family violence and DUI arrests.
We check for holds before we take a premium. If posting a bond will not actually get anyone out today, we say so.

Booking takes time and the record does not post until intake completes. If the arrest was in the last hour or two, it is usually too early rather than the wrong facility.
Commonly two to six hours. Weekends, shift changes, medical holds and warrants in other counties all add to it.
Yes. Confirm accepted payment methods with the jail first — cash bonds are generally cash only. Most of a cash bond is refunded at the end of the case, less county fees.
A hold keeps someone in custody regardless of any bond posted — probation, another county’s warrant, immigration or a medical hold. No bondsman can lift one.
