Possession, possession with intent and trafficking are three very different nights at the jail. The charge on the booking sheet decides which court sets the bond, how big it is, and whether a bond is available at all.
Georgia sorts drug offences by substance, by weight and by what the state says you intended to do with it. That sorting is what drives the bond.
If you do not know which of those is on the paperwork, call us with the name and we will find out. Knowing the exact charge is the difference between a guess and a plan.
Three things slow a drug case down at the booking desk more often than anything else.
Multiple counts. Each charge can carry its own bond, and the premium minimum of $50 applies per bonded charge. Four counts is four bonds, not one.
Probation or parole holds. If the person was already on probation, a new drug arrest often triggers a hold. A hold means no release even if you post every bond on the sheet, until that judge rules.
Other counties. An outstanding warrant somewhere else surfaces during booking. We check for that before you spend money, not after.
The premium is 15% of the face value of the bond, the statutory maximum in Georgia, with a $50 minimum per bonded charge. A $10,000 felony possession bond costs $1,500. A $75,000 trafficking bond costs $11,250, and on numbers like that we will talk with you about collateral and a payment structure rather than pretending it is simple.
Property can be pledged as collateral on larger bonds. So can a vehicle title. Bring the question to us before you borrow money at a worse rate somewhere else.
Our 007 Footloose Offender Services division supports clients who are on conditions like these — check-ins, monitoring and reminders — so a missed appointment does not turn into a revoked bond.
Common questions
Often, yes — but trafficking bonds are large and some require a judge to set them at a hearing rather than at first appearance. Call us with the name and the charge and we will tell you honestly what is possible tonight.
Usually yes. Each count on the booking sheet can carry its own bond amount, and the statutory minimum premium of $50 applies per bonded charge.
A new arrest while on probation frequently triggers a hold. A hold blocks release regardless of what you post, until the probation judge rules. We check for holds before taking a dollar from you.
In many Forsyth County drug cases, yes. Random screening is a common condition of release, and a failed or missed screen can put the bond at risk.
